Dive Site: Le Poulmic
Location: Plymouth
Description: Wreck
Length: 25 metres (82 feet)
Depth: 22 metres (72 feet)
Visibility: 4 - 12 metres (13 - 40 feet)
Rating: ***
Not a lot of wreck left to see, except for the wooden hull structure which resembles the rib cage of dead animal. However, this site is far from dead, as the wreck offers lots of nooks and crannies for fish to play in and can attract some larger shoals of fish to. Every time I have dived it so far there always seems to be an abundance of large purple starfish too. A very
pretty dive for the south coast!

The best part of this site are the many gullies which slope off in all directions. Wreckage is scattered over a wide area, with large metal rings in one place, pieces of hull in others, a mast, bits of machinery and a winch. I've also seen bits of pottery.
It's tide dependant and can be as shallow as 18m on some tides, which makes this site ideal for Nitrox.
The gullies are of rock ridges with many holes contained within. Have a look in these holes as you can often see octopus eggs and squat lobsters such as the blue/red Galathea strigosa. In addition to the purple starfish, Bloody Henry starfish are everywhere but the abundance seems to be in spiny starfish. Wrasse and bib seem to inhabit the wrecakge pieces like the hull piece with its ribs sticking up, but also look out for conger especially on the other bigger pieces of hull ribbing.
