Scuba Diving Southwest Coast of England, UK, Europe
Dive Site: Fort Bovisand
Location: Plymouth Sound
Description: Reef
Depth: 12 metres max (40 feet)
Visibility: 5 metres (15 feet)
Rating: **
Diving in and around Plymouth Sound will not be the best diving in the area, but it still offers marine life such as starfish and clams and is ok for gaining experience and doing skills. The Sound has a sandy floor that has a spattering of seaweed and the occaisional bit of kelp. Launch is possible from a slip at Fort Bovisand, although it is not an easy slip to use at low tides due to boats coming into it at a ninety degree angle.
Reader Reviews:
Fort Bovisand Harbour offers a lot of life in terms of crabs, starfish, cuttlefish and many small fish that are renowned across the whole area. There is a really good nature trail marked out by a rope system leading you around the rocks to see a vast amount of plant life as well as the little creatures that live amongst it. A perfect place for training beginners with plenty of life to give everyone something to look at!
