From Cebu City– Travel to Malapascua Island from Cebu City by getting a taxi to Maya in the north of Cebu. From here it is possible to get a ferry (stopping at 5pm) or fishing boat across to Malapascua Island. Calangaman Island can be reached from Malapascua Island by taking a 2 hour boat journey |
Calangaman Island is located around two hour's boat ride to the southeast of Malapascua Island, near the coast of Leyte. Smaller in size than its neighbour, Calangaman is a palm tree covered strip of land: the pinnacle of a seamount with white sand beaches and a tropical climate. A pristine white sandbank stretches out into the azure blue waters providing a perfect base for swimming and snorkelling. The island itself is often used during surface intervals for sunbathing and barbeques and whilst Calangaman could be dived from the shore, boat diving is the norm, avoiding any surface swimming. The deep wall dives are a definite attraction here with huge gorgonian fans populating the reef as it drops away from 30m into the depths. Nearby Nunez Shoal (around 5 minutes boat ride from Calangaman) is a top diving location.
