Scuba Diving in Malta, Europe

Dive Site: Anchor Bay

Location: Anchor Bay (near Mellieha)

Description: Reef / Cave

Depth: 8 metres max (26 feet)

Visibility: 10 metres (30 feet)

Rating: ***

The marine life is abundant at Anchor Bay if a little small in size. It includes Moray eels, scorpion fish, cuckoo wrasse and shoals of blue and yellow fish. The site is located opposite the Popeye film set, which is hidden between two cliffs. Access is by a slip road that leads to a jetty. In the water following the cliff round leads to a cave which you can surface in (leaving your regulator in) and explore. As you leave the cave the colour of the water is amazingly blue.

Reader Reviews:

The cave at Anchor Bay was my first post qualification dive (it was meant to be my second but just don't go there!). Absolutely stunning and teeming with little red fishes!

Nice safe entry off the concrete jetty too!

Cave nearby the jetty is worth visiting. Diving with local divers we had a little chat inside. Air must somehow leak in to it. At least we didn't have any problems.

Juzzi

Please Note. As with any enclosed cave when diving we would not recommend breathing other than from your regulator.
