Scuba Diving in Tenerife
Reader Reviews:
Dive Site: Barranco Seco
Location: Los Gigantes
Description: Reef
Depth: 25 metres (82 feet)
Visibility: 10 - 15 metres (30 - 50 feet)
Rating: ****
I don't always agree with feeding animals whilst underwater but there can be
little life in certain parts of the canaries and encouraging a reef to develop
is surely not a bad thing. Bi-weekly feeding trips offer divers the chance to
feed fish and rays at this site. Atlantic, eagle and stingrays can be hand fed
with bits of fish from a bin that is lowered to the site, after 15mins the vis
can get pretty bad due to all the activity from both divers and wildlife. Excellent
fun though if you're after a close encounter.
The diving is from a hard boat, and we used the Los Gigantes Diving Center who
recognise both BSAC and Padi qualifications. Our visit was during April and I
was diving with a shortie and 3mm full suit, most divers use semi-drys and you
may even prefer full dry suit during some months of the year. The Center also
offers night dives.
